Who we are
This non-profit aims to help breast cancer patients in St. Joseph, Missouri celebrate life by receiving a trip to offer them respite, relaxation, and rejuvenation during their challenging journey. These trips aim to provide emotional support, create memorable experiences, and foster a sense of community among patients, allowing them to escape the stress and uncertainty of their illness temporarily. Such trips may also offer educational resources, holistic wellness activities, and opportunities for personal growth to empower patients in their fight against cancer.
Our Why
Our journey began with Hayley McKinney’s dream—a devoted mother who, in her final days, made the brave choice to forego treatment in order to save up and create lasting memories with her children. She envisioned a special trip, filled with love and laughter, but time had other plans. Hayley passed away on August 24, 2023, from Stage 4 breast cancer. Though she couldn’t take that journey, her legacy endures, reminding us to embrace the spirit of adventure and togetherness she cherished.
In March 2024, Krista Letzig and Andrea Polachek founded Journey of Strength to honor Hayley’s vision and continue her work. As advocates for breast cancer awareness, they are committed to bringing hope and change to families facing similar battles, creating a lasting tribute to Hayley’s dream.
